I hold a Master of Science in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, a degree focused on the psychology of employees and the organizations where they work. I conducted research specifically on the culture of law firms. I am Co-President of the Oregon Chapter of the Organization Development Network, a non-profit organization that supports organization development professionals. If individual leadership coaching is needed, I am a certified whole person coach. Most notably, I worked in the legal industry for more than 30 years so I have firsthand experience of the pressures of the legal industry, as well as in-depth knowledge of the organizational structure of law firms.
Below are specific ways I can help your organization.
Your law firm might be struggling for multiple reasons. Maybe you have high associate and staff turnover. You might be having difficulty with the new hybrid work environment COVID has created. There might be generational dissonance in your firm as the new generation of associates don't seem to have the same work ethic as the partners. You might have attorneys in your office who are very difficult to work with, and you are not sure how to handle them.
I have worked in the industry for more than 30 years, and I have seen what has and has not changed. For example, I have observed how work-life balance is difficult to maintain in this industry as much now as when I started. However, the difference today is that partners who worked 60-70 hours a week when they were associates are expecting the same from their firm's associates who do not want to work overtime.
We can conduct a thorough investigation of the well-being and motivation of your employees and how to retain them. We will come up with a strategy to assist your law firm in being not only financially successful in this new culture, but also a place where people want to come to work and stay. Because of my experience in the industry, I have firsthand knowledge of what employee staff members need to be motivated.
Using the whole-person method, we will explore any challenges you are facing as a leader and how to overcome them. We can look at your leadership goals and how to accomplish them using your unique strengths and abilities. We can look at any resistance you perceive from other people and how to deal with them in a manner that you feel is appropriate. We can analyze how to bring emotional intelligence into highly charged work situations.

For individuals: CliftonStrengths is an assessment tool that discovers the innate talents of individuals. With knowledge of their aptitudes, employees can develop them into strengths by practicing skills unique to their talents. Employees will bring a new perspective to their work and be more motivated using strengths that are comfortable to them. Employees who are motivated are less likely to experience burnout.
For teams: The information gained from CliftonStrengths can also be used to help your teams become stronger. Using the abilities of each individual's talents and strengths, teams can run cohesively, with every member bringing their unique contribution to accomplish team goals.
For organizations: Utilizing assessments, such as an employee engagement survey, can determine the well-being and motivation of employees in the organization as a whole. This information can be used to determine what category of employees are struggling and where intervention and focus is needed. For example, if you are having high associate burnout (and eventual turnover), focus can be directed on repairing the issues that are creating this problem.
